   The Emergent ⃰ Landscape

In the landscape series, Bettis’ images emerge from a masterful play of texture and tone. The subtle intensity of the pallet knife works the color and illumines a tranquility of place.

Accessible, richly colorful and complex in material application, these paintings are articulations of an auto-didact’s intensely personal understanding of his project’s scope. Requisite skills are complemented by fine materials; oil paint on Belgian linen and birch panels indicate a confidence and culmination of seeking, finding and realizing.

Cameron Bettis is a native Houstonian and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2006. He has been a Professional Landman since 2007.

Drawing and painting began early. “Since I can remember I have drawn on every scrap of paper that was in reach.”

Charcoal, pastels, woodcarving and gardening have informed a process and sensibility mapping an experience of place in ways that reflect an intimate inspiration. Oil paint has proven to be the summit and greatest challenge. “Nature inspires me in its purity and perfection. How oil paint captures light and its effect on color and texture enables me to imagine and realize impressions of memories, places and experiences.”

In the landscape series, “each painting represents its own accomplishment: each being the result of beautiful accidents, revisions and victories.”
